Funding Opportunities
CSA Illumina Platform
In January 2008, the University of Idaho subscribed to CSA Illumina, which offers Papers Invited, Scholars Universe, and Community of Science (COS) Funding searches. For verification of your UI affiliation, the links below must be used to access the services. If you are logging in from off-campus (e.g., at home or from a non-Moscow UI site), you will be directed to a window that requires user verification. It will ask for your barcode number on your Vandal Card (details below).
Go directly to the CSA Illumina Platform. Here you'll find data about Funding Opportunities, Scholars Universe, and Papers Invited. You'll also see the UI Library's list of Abstracts, Indexes, and Full-text databases.
Please read this before starting: You can create and save searches for funding opportunities via the COS interface (a separate website), but first you must create a username and password on the CSA Illumina site. You only have to go through this process once.
- Access CSA Illumina from one of the links above. When the page opens, click on "Please log in to My Research" in the upper right hand corner. This will open a new window.
- Below the "Username" and "Password" boxes, you will see a link for new users . Click on that link and go through the steps to create your new profile. If you have an existing account with COS (for example, from your previous institution), the system will ask if you want to merge the accounts. You can merge, or skip.
- Once you have completed the three steps, you will receive a confirmation email to activate your account. You must click the link in the email to verify your account .
- Once you have done this, you will be in the CSA Illumina site.
- Please note: You can't access your COS Workbench from the CSA Illumina page. You can close out the CSA Illumina page or open a new tab where you can log directly into the COS Workbench. Once you have created your username and password, you can log into your COS Workbench from any location without going through the CSA Illumina interface.
Funding Opportunities Community of Science provides more than 22,000 records representing more than $33 billion in grants, fellowships, prizes, and more. COS Funding Opportunities™ is international in both content and audience, providing access to monies from public and private sector sponsors around the world. COS Funding Opportunities™ also continues to be available on its original COS platform. The COS version is optimized to serve large research organizations, such as university research departments and independent research institutions.
Scholar Universe provides direct access to more than 1.3 million active researchers working in over 200 disciplines and 9 countries. Searches in Scholar Universe provide unparalleled exposure to the community currently studying a topic of interest. Exploring this living research community expands awareness and access to cross-disciplinary research perspectives, publications, research methodologies, expertise, and collaborative opportunity. With COS Scholar Universe, your faculty and students are directly connected to the community of scholarly research.
Papers Invited is a multidisciplinary alerting service for calls for papers for upcoming conferences and special issues of scholarly journals. It is designed primarily for graduates and faculty, as well as researchers in corporations and government departments. It is especially useful for academics that are looking to present their work and ultimately get it published in the subsequent conference proceedings. Papers Invited is also relevant for undergraduates and includes a section specifically on student competitions and awards.
COS Workbench
At the COS Workbench you can create and save customized searches using advanced criteria. Click the "Search COS Funding Opportunities" tab and select "Main Search" to get started.
How do I register my Vandal ID barcode?
The UI subscribes to databases on the CSA Illumina platform. Therefore, you must have a registered Library ID number before you can use our resources or services. Your Vandal card barcode is your Library ID number, too. So, if you have a Vandal card, you can register the 14-digit barcode by calling the UI Library circulation desk at 208-885-6559. If you do not have a Vandal card, get a Library ID number by completing this online form, or by calling 208-885-6559. If you call to get your Library ID number, you will need to have your UI e-mail address and student ID or employee V number on hand.
