Welcome to Technology at the University of Idaho
The University of Idaho is noted for its diverse and interdisciplinary research capabilities that generate scientific and engineering innovations. Among our fast moving fronts of research are advancements in the field of supercritical fluid extraction that have led to solutions for nuclear waste treatment and toxic metal remediation.
Yet another collaborative group of researchers at the University are discovering new ways to utilize the unique surface chemistry of nanosprings. Bioapplications in this area include utilizing the large surface area of nanosprings to speed up bio detection.
Diversification was the key in putting together a team that includes mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, geologists, environmental engineers, physicians and clinical scientists who are all working together to study microbial community ecology. Emerging data from their studies on the diversity and ecology of microorganisms in a wide variety of habitats have included human health and how the microbial composition of these communities, specific to multiple ethnic groups, influence their susceptibility to various diseases.
Addressing the need for greater levels of system integration onto a single integrated circuit, University researchers have discovered ways to bring total system integration to areas of high voltage control in the field of power electronics. Also noted for its breakthroughs in magnetic phenomena, University scientists have discovered processes for making magnetic nanoparticles and thin films for information data storage and magneto-dielectric (meta-materials) with applications in the manufacture of computer memory chips where making component parts smaller is extremely important.
The Office of Technology Transfer is also involved in a number of service activities that benefit the University of Idaho and the community. It is involved with supporting entrepreneurship on campus, supporting regional economic development activities, supporting the incubator program, supporting and assisting start-ups arising from University of Idaho-developed technologies, and supporting the growth of corporate sponsored research.
